But in many low-resource settings, contraceptive methods and essential health equipment are not consistently available. An important goal of the ACQUIRE Project is expanding and improving the availability of a range of contraceptive methods from which clients can choose.
ACQUIRE country programs have identified two significant gaps that commonly exist in contraceptive security systems: the gap in equipment and supply needs for long-acting and permanent methods (LAPMs) and the gap in the supply chain for all methods, between the district level and individual service sites. Related to this, ACQUIRE has developed Reality √, a contraceptive prevalence forecasting model. One of the applications of this model is to enable realistic projections for commodity and supply needs.
Through a collaborative effort, ACQUIRE is incorporating the specific supply and equipment needs related to LAPMs into an existing framework, Strategic Pathway to Reproductive Health Commodity Security.
